MONSTER PROJECT

In mythology, monsters were often used to guard the gates of their worlds.  What kind of monster would you create to guard the gates of your mythological world?  What would it eat?  What features would it possess to help to protect your world?  We will look at some different  mythological monsters of various cultures:  Medusa, Minotaur, Gorgon, Hydra, Sphinx, Cyclope, Centaur, Chimaera, Phoenix, and others.  You will then create a monster of your own.

1.  I will assign you a land, air, or sea monster.  You must choose some of the features of the monsters that we look at and read about, but you should also add some of your own.

2.  Create your monster, making sure you answer the following questions:

 ·        Which mythological creatures did you base your creature on?  What cultures were they from?
·        What does your monster eat?
·        What is its name?
·        Is it a land, air, or sea monster?
·        What does the monster look like?
·        What do you do to take care of it?
·        What features does it possess that will enable it to protect your mythological world?

3.  You will present your monster to the class.  You may work on it at home.

4.  It is due by class time on Thursday, May 13th.

5.  Have fun!

*A checklist will be used to assess this project.
